Slipper MOQ, Sampling and Lead Time Explained

What really drives minimum order quantity, how sampling works and how to plan a realistic timeline.

What drives MOQ

Minimum order quantity is not an arbitrary number. It comes from how the product is made. Molded footwear runs in batches per mold and per color, and materials are mixed or purchased in minimum lots. Custom colors, special materials, new molds and printed packaging each add their own minimums.

  • Existing style in an existing color: usually the most flexible.
  • Existing style in a custom color: color matching adds a material minimum.
  • Custom logo: molded logos may need a mold insert; printed logos need setup.
  • New design: new molds add tooling cost and the highest minimums.

How to lower your entry quantity

Start from catalog styles, limit the number of colors in your first order, and use logo methods that do not need new tooling. Share quantity per color rather than a single total, because that is how production is planned.

How sampling works

After reviewing your brief, the factory confirms the sample plan, cost and timing. Existing styles are fastest. Custom colors need color submissions, and new designs need pattern work and molds before a first sample is possible. Expect at least one round of comments; plan time for a second sample if fit or color is critical.

Planning lead time

At STARDOTS the typical bulk lead time is 15–30 days after order confirmation and sample approval, depending on quantity, materials and customization. Add time for packaging printing, inspection, export booking and transit. Work backwards from the date the product must be on shelf, and leave a buffer before seasonal peaks.
